(NewsNation) — Troops and their families who live on the Tyndall Air Force Base in Florida were told to take their Christmas decorations down at their homes.
A photo posted in an Air Force Facebook group showed an email sent out by Balfour Beatty Communities, the landlord for all privatized housing on the base.
“While driving (through) the neighborhoods yesterday, it was noticed that Christmas decorations have already begun to appear within the community,” the message read. “All holiday decorations should be reflective in their respective months and not any sooner than 30 days before the given holiday.”
“If you currently have Yuletide decor present on the outside of your home, please remove it and reinstall it in accordance with your community guidelines listed below,” the notice added.
Air Force Captain Justin Davidson-Beebe, the public affairs chief at Tyndall, told military news outlet Task & Purpose that the Balfour was “enforcing the community standards outlined in the legally binding lease agreement all residents voluntarily sign.”
Davidson-Beebe added the terms say Christmas decorations can be put up starting the week after Thanksgiving through the first week of the New Year. He said since standards are set by a particular privatized housing community, the rules may vary from base to base.
