FORT STEWART, Ga. (WSAV) — An active shooter has been confirmed at Fort Stewart, and casualties are still being assessed, according to Maj. Charles Egan.
Lt. Col Angel Tomko, Division PIO, said the incident occurred in the 2d Brigade area located off of Highway 144 near Sunbury Road, about 43 miles southwest of Savannah. The brigade, which is not located in the main Fort Stewart area, is currently locked down, as well as Wright Army Airfield, which is located about 3 miles away.
Fort Stewart Hunter Army Airfield (FSHAA) Commander has issued a lockdown in the 2ABCT area. The lockdown includes Wright and Evans Army Airfield.
FSHAA confirmed through Facebook that Fort Stewart DoDEA schools are on lockdown as well. However, there is no immediate threat to the schools.
Nexstar’s WSAV has a crew on the way.
“Lockdown your facility immediately, stay inside, close and lock all windows and doors. Keep telephone lines open and report accountability to your leadership,” FSHAA said on a Facebook post.
