If you want something between the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano and the track-only 599XX and 599XX Evo, Maranello did produce the 599 GTO. The trouble is, the GTO and the XX cars were only available to Ferrari’s closest clienti, and the XX variants were restricted to the track. Moreover, none of them were available with a manual transmission. But this is. It’s called the XXT, and it’s made by a British company called Talos, which will be producing only five examples of its raucous road racer, with no two examples built exactly alike. With 125 examples of the 599 GTO being produced, and around 44 XX variants (29 of which are said to have been upgraded Evoluzione spec), Talos’ proposition will be even rarer. As you might imagine, this level of extremism and exclusivity won’t come cheap, but compared to the special editions mentioned above, the XXT isn’t too bad. More on that later.
Power And Performance Fit For A Prancing Horse
The 6.0-liter V12 under the hood of this carbon fiber-bodied beast originally produced 612 hp in GTB form and 661 hp in GTO flavor. Here, it goes all the way to 674 hp (with 460 lb-ft of torque), and while that doesn’t quite match the 599XX’s 720 hp and the 599XX Evo’s 740 ponies, this is a road car that can be specified with a manual transmission, so some restraint is probably smart. There’s only so much the 20-inch center-lock forged wheels can deliver to the tarmac, after all. Besides, 674 hp is still enough to get the XXT from 0-62 mph in 3.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 205 mph, with an “F1-style” exhaust system with upgraded headers howling all the way.
A 105-liter (27.7-gallon) fuel tank means it should be usable as a sort of grand tourer, should you wish, while an 11.3-cubic-foot trunk gives you enough space for some overnight bags. If you’d rather lean into the hardcore nature of the car, a roll cage with four-point Schuberth harnesses on carbon seats can be optioned, though that will surely add to the shocking price, which we can’t put off any longer.
Talos XXT Pricing Makes The Wallet Very Skinny
With carbon fiber bodywork, a reworked engine, a five-unit production, and a 599 GTB starting point that, on average, costs around $200,000 (with two pedals; rare manual variants are much, much more expensive), Talos wants £950,000, or around $1.24 million. Is that fair? Well, a 599 GTO averages around $880,000, according to Classic.com, while he cleanest examples can breach $2 million. A Ferrari 599XX? Those cost around $1.75 million when new, and the Evo package added another $250k (plus a further $230,000 with the optional drag reduction system). Either XX variant can fetch well over $3 million at auction nowadays, with some Evos coming closer to $3.5 million. So yes, the Talos XXT is expensive, but given the rare sort of road-legal experience on offer, perhaps it’s worth the cash.
