The Honda Prelude has been around for a while now, first debuting in 1978 with a humble 80-hp 1.6-liter inline-four engine under the hood (downrated to 72 hp for the North American version). The Prelude has always been classified as a “sport compact,” and while you could describe just about any version of the car as sporty, not all model years and trims can be considered truly competitive against other performance cars.
