The history of electric cars, from fully battery-powered to hybrids and plug-ins, is a long record of trial and error. That is, Toyota didn’t just decide to build the Prius one day and invent the hybrid overnight, rather, the whole industry had been trying to figure it out for decades before we got to a point where these cars became viable on a mainstream production level, and Hyundai’s been at it since long before they built the Elantra LPI in the late ’00s.
