One person was killed and two others were wounded in a shooting at a Dallas Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility early Wednesday, police said.
“The preliminary investigation determined that a suspect opened fire at a government building from an adjacent building. Two people were transported to the hospital with gunshot wounds,” the Dallas Police Department said in a statement to The Hill.
“One victim died at the scene. The suspect is deceased. This is an ongoing investigation, and we will hold a media briefing later today,” it added.
Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem said in an early morning post on X that a motive in the shooting was unknown.
“Details are still emerging but we can confirm there were multiple injuries and fatalities. The shooter is deceased by a self-inflicted gun shot wound,” Noem wrote. “While we don’t know motive yet, we know that our ICE law enforcement is facing unprecedented violence against them. It must stop. Please pray for the victims and their families,” she added.
“Preliminary information is a possible sniper,” Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons said during a Wednesday morning appearance on CNN.
Vice President Vance said in a Wednesday post on X that the “obsessive attack on law enforcement, particularly ICE, must stop.”
“I’m praying for everyone hurt in this attack and for their families,” he added.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said in a post on X that he and his aides were closely monitoring the situation at the ICE Detention Facility in Dallas,”
‘We are praying for the swift recovery of those injured, and we are deeply grateful to the brave first responders who rushed to the scene,” he said.
