The influential conservative group Club for Growth is airing a new ad starting on Sunday pressing Republican state legislators in Kansas to support redistricting efforts that could weaken the chances of Rep. Sharice Davids (D) holding her congressional seat in Kansas.
“We’ve seen this movie before: Liberals trying to rig elections. California Democrats rewriting district lines, setting the stage to award Democrats control of Congress. It’s time for the Heartland to write its own script,” a narrator says in the 30-second ad, which was first shared with The Hill.
“We can’t let big state Democrats silence the voices of Kansas voters,” the narrator continues. “State Republicans are teaming up with President Trump to fight back with a plan to pass new maps for Kansas. Tell legislators: Restore fairness and support fair maps.”
The conservative group plans to air the new ad on morning public affairs shows statewide. The group previously pledged at least $1 million toward supporting Republicans’ efforts to redraw House maps and has run ads in Indiana and Missouri as well.
The newest ad airing in Kansas is notable given the state could see new congressional lines ahead of 2026, though some Republicans told The Kansas City Star they had concerns over redistricting, including whether it would be able to prevail over litigation.
Republicans have already tried to create a tougher district for Davids after the 2020 U.S. Census, but their efforts to oust her during the 2022 cycle failed.
Texas and Missouri have already redistricted and teed up new House maps that aim to give Republicans pick-up opportunities ahead of next year amid a pressure campaign from the White House and President Trump. Indiana Republicans have not yet said whether they’ll redraw their House map but face similar pressure to do so.
The ad underscores just how far Republicans are looking to take redistricting before next year’s midterms.
In response, California has teed up its own map to go before voters this November that would essentially try to neutralize the gains that Republicans are expected to make in Texas with their new map. Other blue states could also redraw their maps.
“Democrats have spent decades gerrymandering their states to keep Republicans out of Congress. Now, Republicans are finally on offense when it comes to redistricting and the Left is panicking,” Club for Growth President David McIntosh said in a statement.
“Club for Growth is working closely with legislators in Kansas, as well as leaders in other states, to pass redistricting, and we are planning to spend $1 million to push back on radicals, like Gov. Newsom, whose policies have left Republicans underrepresented in the U.S. House.”
