Apple has officially announced the Apple Watch Ultra 3 today at its “Awe Dropping” event alongside a slew of other devices. This includes the Apple Watch Series 11, the Apple Watch SE 3, the AirPods Pro 3, and several phones in the iPhone 17 series. The Apple Watch Ultra 3 may not look much different from its predecessors, but Apple has most certainly made a few changes to the design. For example, Apple says it has the “largest display ever in an Apple Watch.” So, if you’re into big-screen smartwatches and you’re in the Apple ecosystem, this is probably the watch for you.
Large display aside, this is the one key area where it looks like Apple updated the design. The watch case finishes are the same as the Apple Watch Ultra 2, which comes in Natural Titanium and Black Titanium. However, there are new colors for the watch bands.
The Apple Watch Ultra 3 comes with longer battery life and 5G connectivity
Much like the Apple Watch Series 11, the Apple Watch Ultra 3 will see longer battery life as one of the improvements on this new model. It also comes with 5G connectivity instead of LTE. Cellular is the only option on the Apple Watch Ultra 3, just like the last two models. Apple isn’t raising the price of the new model, though, even though it comes with a bigger display and better battery life. So, you’ll still only have to pay the $799.
As for the battery life, Apple says it can now last up to 42 hours on a single charge. This is up from about 36 hours on the Apple Watch Ultra 2. It’s not a whole extra day, but it should be enough extra time to get you through whatever activity you’re currently doing. Or just enough time to get to a charger.

Built-in two-way satellite communications keep you connected, even when you aren’t
The Apple Watch Ultra 3 is designed with the intention for those who enjoy outdoor activities. Sometimes those activities might take you off the grid, where you lose cellular service. And if there’s no Wi-Fi around either, then you would generally not be able to connect with anyone.
With the new watch, the built-in two-way communications will let you connect even without cellular or Wi-Fi. Apple says you can use satellite communications on the watch to send messages to emergency services as well as friends and family. “Apple Watch Ultra 3 offers Emergency SOS via satellite to text emergency services and notify emergency contacts with a few simple taps,” Apple says. Naturally, Apple is also adding the Hypertension notifications and the new sleep scores. Along with all the other new software features that will be available on the Apple Watch Series 11. The Apple Watch Ultra 3 retails for a starting price of $799. Pre-orders start today, September 9. Full availability begins on September 19.
