Today at its “Awe Dropping” event, Apple officially announced the Apple Watch Series 11 alongside its more affordable cousin, the Apple Watch SE 3, promoting several advancements and improvements in both the hardware and the software for each new watch model. Not the least of which is the replacement of LTE with 5G connectivity for Cellular models. The 5G connectivity will make for faster connections with anything that’s reliant on data. So, here’s hoping other smartwatch makers follow in Apple’s footsteps and bring 5G forward.
In addition to the 5G connectivity, Apple Watch Series 11 also launches running on watchOS 26. This software version will be available across all new Apple Watch models releasing this year, and introduces a handful of new features, including improvements to the battery life and all-new Hypertension Notifications.
Apple has announced Hypertension Notifications coming with the Apple Watch Series 11
The Apple Watch has always had a strong bond with health and fitness features, and the Apple Watch Series 11 is no different. Apple tends to introduce a new feature or a few new features with every new watch release. This year, Hypertension Notifications is one of the big ones. With Hypertension Notifications, users can get alerts if the watch detects signs of chronic high blood pressure. Also known as Hypertension. Apple says data is reviewed in the background over 30 days before it makes an assessment. It then notifies users if anything is picked up. Apple says it pooled training data from over 100,000 participants and then had the data validated in a clinical study of over 2,000 participants before finalizing the feature.
Apple Watch users will also now get sleep scores based on the sleep tracking. Obviously, you’ll have to wear your Apple Watch to bed for this. But Apple says the Apple Watch Series 11 is its thinnest and lightest so far. So, this should be more comfortable than it may have been in the past.
Apple is also releasing the Apple Watch SE 3
While the Apple Watch Series 11 will be Apple’s flagship smartwatch, the company isn’t leaving out its users who prefer something a little more basic and affordable. Of course, there’s not really much that’s basic with the Apple Watch SE 3 (or past SE models), as it’ll offer many of the same features as the Series 11.
For example, it will also offer 5G connectivity for the cellular model. It provides users with sleep scores after each night of sleep, too. The Apple Watch SE 3 also offers Retrospective ovulation estimates, Sleep Apnea notifications, and wrist temperature sensing. These are a few upgrades over the Apple Watch SE 2. Naturally, it also comes running on watchOS 26. It even features the S10 chip for on-device Siri and hand gestures.
Pricing and availability
The Apple Watch Series 11 and Apple Watch SE 3 will be available for pre-order starting today. Full availability starts on September 19. The Apple Watch Series 11 starts at $399.99. Meanwhile, the Apple Watch SE 3 starts at $249.99.
