Apple is gearing up to unveil the iPhone 17 series at its annual hardware event on September 9th. At this point, it’s no secret that a new ultra-slim Air model will replace the Plus model. This is a significant shift in strategy, possibly aimed at attracting customers who prioritize aesthetics. Now, according to a new report, Apple seems to have ambitious production plans for its 2025 lineup. The company plans to produce approximately 100 million iPhone 17 units in 2025, with the Pro Max model accounting for a large portion. This is considering the perks it would offer.
Apple to mass-produce 100 million iPhone 17 units
Apple had an initial production goal of 90 million units for its iPhone 16 family last year. However, the lower demand for the lineup caused it to drop the number to 84 million units. In that context, the 100 million production estimate for the iPhone 17 series, from The Elec, certainly seems high. But then again, it’s possible that the company might be predicting higher demand this time.
While the individual shipments’ share of each model is not reported yet, it states that the iPhone 17 Pro Max could be produced in large numbers. This isn’t surprising, considering the demand is usually high for the top-end model because of the hardware and software advantages it holds.
The Pro Max model could be produced in large numbers
After the Pro Max model, the regular Pro will secure second place in terms of production numbers. Then comes the standard iPhone 17 model, and lastly, the new iPhone 17 Air. It looks like Apple is playing it safe with the new slim variant by not producing it in large numbers.
For the 2025 iPhone models, BOE will be supplying LTPO OLED panels for the iPhone 17 Pro, while Samsung and LG will make up the remaining shipments. The report did not mention how many units will come out from India and China at this point, but the latter could have the highest output. We’ll only know whether Apple met with its initial production goal or had to lower it again later this year.
