For years, the general trend in the world of smartphones has been to improve everything from the camera to the screen. This approach often leads to more expensive devices. But it looks like OnePlus might be taking a different path with its upcoming flagship, the OnePlus 15, aiming for a lower price tag.
OnePlus 15 tipped to adopt an “iQOO” performance-focused approach
The latest leak comes from the OnePlus Club on X/Twitter. According to the post, OnePlus 15 could be priced significantly lower than its predecessor. The reason? A strategic shift inspired by the success of another brand, iQOO, particularly in the Chinese market. This “iQOO approach” means focusing heavily on what truly drives performance and cutting costs on other expensive segments.
The leaks suggest that the OnePlus 15 will be an absolute beast when it comes to power and speed. Rumors point to a stunning 165Hz OLED screen and a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2/Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip. You could also find a massive 7,000mAh battery with blazing-fast 120W wired charging. The device would also be quite durable thanks to a solid IP68 or IP69 rating.
Cost-cutting will allow a lower price tag on the OnePlus 15
So, where is OnePlus saving money? Apparently, in the camera system. Previous rumors have mentioned a potential downgrade in the camera sensors. Specifically, a smaller 3x telephoto lens and possibly even a downgraded main sensor. The move away from the high-cost Hasselblad partnership to an in-house “DetailMax” image processing brand also makes sense in this context. This will allow the company to save on expensive licensing fees while still delivering a decent photo experience.
If these rumors hold up, it means OnePlus is making a clear bet. They believe that a large part of their audience values raw performance—fast chips, a smooth display, and long battery life—over other premium features. It’s a bold move, and while the exact price is still unknown, it’s clear that OnePlus is aiming to be a top competitor in the high-end market by offering an aggressive price tag. Will this strategy work outside of China? We will have to wait to find out.
