Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) is endorsing Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-Iowa), a third-term member of the House, giving her leg up in the race to replace retiring Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa).
“We need conservative fighters in the Senate — and that’s exactly what we’ll get with Ashley Hinson,” Thune said in a statement. “Ashley has been a fierce advocate of President Trump’s America First agenda and has been instrumental in delivering big wins in the House for Iowans and the American people. I know that she’ll bring with her to the Senate that same unrelenting energy. Ashely has my full support and endorsement.”
National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman Tim Scott (R-S.C.) is also endorsing Hinson, who was first elected to the House in 2020.
Alex Latcham, the executive director of the Senate Leadership Fund, a Senate GOP-allied fundraising group, praised Hinson and said the group would join Thune in backing Hinson.
“Ashley Hinson is a strong fighter for Iowa, working tirelessly to lower costs for families, stand for our farmers, and secure our borders. Hinson has an unmatched fundraising ability and a history of winning tough campaigns. With Ashley’s energy, experience, and vision, SLF proudly joins Leader John Thune and many others in supporting Ashley Hinson as Iowa’s next U.S. senator.”
Hinson is running against former state Sen. Jim Carlin, who challenged Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) in the 2022 GOP primary, for the party’s nomination to succeed Ernst.
Hinson reported raising $854,000 in her second quarter fundraising report, giving her more than $2.8 million in cash on hand she can use for a Senate race.
