In 2021, North Carolina’s economic development office issued a news release announcing Red Bull’s intent to build a sprawling factory at the former Philip Morris facility. Now called The Grounds at Concord, the company says it will break ground on the $1.5 billion plant this week. The manufacturing and distribution campus is expected to create up to 700 jobs and include nearly 2.4 million square feet of building space.
The operation will fill up to 3 billion cans of Red Bull products annually upon full buildout.
The Charlotte Business Journal reports the grouping of Red Bull, Rauch, and Ball Corp. bought the 500-acre site at The Grounds in 2021 for $55 million.
The beverage campus was the largest economic development announcement in Cabarrus County history at the time of its disclosure. Its price tag has since been surpassed by Eli Lilly and Co.’s $2 billion-plus pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities at The Grounds.
