Image transformation tools aren’t new. They’ve been around for a while now, but it looks like Google is giving it an AI upgrade with the relaunch of Androidify. The company has announced that it is relaunching the app, except now it has been given an AI twist powered by none other than Gemini.
Google brings back Androidify with AI twist
For those unfamiliar, Androidify is an Android app that allowed users to create personalized Android bot avatars. The app was released back in 2011, but in 2020, Google decided to pull the plug on it. We’re not sure what was the reason, but now it’s back. Google has announced that Androidify is returning to the Play Store with some help from AI.
According to its Play Store listing, “Powered by Google’s latest technology: Androidify is built on a powerful combination of the Gemini API and Imagen models, allowing you to generate high-quality images from simple text descriptions.”
However, this isn’t just for users to have fun using Gemini to create more personalized and accurate bots of themselves. Google is planning on leveraging it as a showcase of the latest Android developments. “This app showcases the best of the latest Android development best practices, utilizing Jetpack Compose for a beautiful and responsive user interface, Navigation 3 for seamless screen transitions, CameraX for a robust camera experience, and Media3 Compose for handling media.”
Using Androidify
If you’re curious, you can go ahead and download Androidify from the Play Store. Using the app is pretty straightforward. If you prefer creating an Android bot avatar that resembles you, then go ahead and upload a photo of yourself. However, if you’d rather create something from scratch, there is the prompt option.
Once your Android bot avatar has been created, you can refine it further by customizing other aspects of it. You can choose from motion schemes, shapes, and custom animations. Also, as 9to5Google notes, for the of September every Friday, you can animate your Android bot avatar into an 8-second video using Google’s Veo 3.
