Samsung is in a dominant position when it comes to foldables. The company recently introduced its 7th-generation foldables, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 models. Going by the shipment numbers, these are well-received. Apple, which is its biggest rival, has yet to enter the foldable market. This delay could result in Apple losing its loyal customers to Samsung foldables. The latest survey findings suggest that 30% of iPhone owners are willing to switch to a Samsung or Google foldable.
Apple loyalists may migrate to a Samsung foldable
Ahead of the iPhone 17 series launch on September 9th, SellCell recently surveyed iPhone owners. One of the questions of the survey was whether they would switch to a foldable phone from Samsung or Google if Apple doesn’t bring out its foldable iPhone in 2026 or later.
There were a total of 2,000 respondents in the survey. Among them, 1 in 5 iPhone owners, or 20.1% said that they’ll likely buy a Galaxy foldable over Apple. This is if the Cupertino giant doesn’t unveil its foldable soon. This number goes up further if we include the 10.2% respondents who said they’d pick the Google Pixel Fold. However, the good news is that 69.6% of the respondents say they will stick with Apple.

The foldable iPhone could be out in 2026
Over 30% of current iPhone owners who were a part of the survey are willing to leave Apple for another brand’s foldable. Apple, which long enjoyed loyalty from its customers, appears to be on the verge of losing it over the lack of a foldable iPhone. This is, if the survey is anything to go by.
For what it’s worth, Apple is reportedly working on a foldable iPhone actively. It is rumoured to launch in 2026. Though it has taken its sweet time, the company wants to make it the perfect foldable by addressing the flaws of the competition’s foldables. Having said that, if there are further delays, Apple runs the risk of losing its customers. While Apple preps its first foldable, Samsung is likely to bring out its 8th-generation foldables next year.
