A resident of Southern California has filed a lawsuit against Microsoft for discontinuing support for its Windows 10 operating system. The company is also accused of trying to monopolize the AI market at the cost of consumers and their data.
About 400 million users are going to be affected by the Windows 10 support cut
In the coming months, Microsoft will be officially discontinuing support for the Windows 10 operating system. Meaning, no more software support will be provided. All the users who are currently on a Windows 10-running PC must upgrade to Windows 11 to enjoy the latest features and get continued software support.
However, it is not as streamlined as it seems. Windows 11 comes with a minimum system requirement. Because of this, as many as 400 million users are basically ineligible to upgrade to the latest Windows OS. The firm has recommended that the affected users upgrade to the eligible hardware and even shift to Copilot+PC if possible.
A man files a lawsuit against Microsoft for the support cut and for monopolizing the AI market
One of the users of Windows 10, Lawrence Klein, has filed a lawsuit against Microsoft. The users accuse the company in the lawsuit that it is trying to dominate the generative AI field by ending the support of Windows 10. The complainant says that the company is well aware of the “consequences” and is jeopardizing the consumer’s data.
He further adds in the lawsuit that two of these Windows PCs, which are running fine, will become obsolete once the support for Windows 10 ends.
The company has currently given a deadline of October 14 for its users to upgrade their system to be eligible for Windows 11. Otherwise, no more software support will be provided. Though the devices will keep running, they won’t work with the latest software and apps. And will be more vulnerable to cyber attacks.
