A massive data breach back in August 2021 impacted over 76 million T-Mobile customers in the US. Hackers reportedly managed to get their hands on some sensitive information, including names, addresses, zip codes, driver’s licenses, ID numbers, and whatnot. While the credit and debit card information wasn’t exposed, the damage was already done. Some of the T-Mobile customers suffered major harm due to this data breach. As a result, T-Mobile was ordered to pay $350 million as a settlement for the data breach.
Some T-Mobile customers got over $4,000 from data breach settlement
According to reports, affected T-Mobile customers started receiving the settlement amount last month. While most of the customers started getting $56.64, there were some who reportedly also received $226.19. For the uninitiated, T-Mobile customers could claim up to $25,000 for each verified financial harm.
Well, according to Android Authority, at least two T-Mobile customers have claimed to have received over $4,000 as their settlement share for the harm caused by the 2021 data breach. The news outlet spotted a Reddit post from user brokenshells, who claimed to have received $4,263.22 as a settlement.
Another Redditor, OnePiglet3249, said that they claimed $1,800 in damages but received a check with a higher amount of $4,136.33. Make no mistake, these settlement amounts are big. But not many will receive a similar amount, for sure. That’s because the big checks will have the names of those T-Mobile customers who suffered current harm from the data breach. Remember, the payouts also depend on what evidence you provide for the financial loss you may have incurred.
If you applied for a settlement payout, you’ll most likely get it; if not, don’t expect any
If you were among those affected by the data breach and filed for a settlement about two to three years ago, you’ll most likely get the payouts. Those who haven’t will most likely get nothing. For those who are waiting for the settlement payout and have any questions, feel free to contact Kroll by using the details mentioned here. Moreover, Kroll, in its FAQs, suggests not contacting the carrier or the court and its clerk for the settlement payout.
