De Tomaso Automobili isn’t a household name like Ferrari or Lamborghini, but in its early days, it was an Italian sports car manufacturer and racing team that stood on equal footing with those contemporaries and had all the ingredients to become an established marque. Founded in 1959 – just 12 years after Ferrari and four years before Lamborghini – it continued building cars right up until 2004 when the company was liquidated. That end came just one year after the death of its founder, Alejandro de Tomaso.
