Despite some rumors claiming that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 would sport an IP68 ingress rating, it appears that those rumors were false. According to PandaFlash X, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will continue to be IP48, like the Galaxy Z Fold 6 was.
This means that the upcoming Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold will mostly likely be the first foldable with an IP68 rating. Which is honestly very huge for Google.
For the uninitiated, IP48 refers to dust and water resistance, with the first number being for dust. The “4” signifies protection against tools and wires greater than one millimeter, which isn’t all that special, to be quite honest. The “8” however signifies protection against long-term immersion in water. Allowing the Galaxy Z Fold 7 to be submerged in water for up to 30 minutes at up to a meter.
Obviously, dust is not 1 millimeter in diameter, so this rating is more about water resistance than dust resistance.
It’s also very likely that the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will have this same ingress rating, as well as the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE which we believe to essentially be the Galaxy Z Flip 6 from last year.
Reserve your Galaxy Z Fold 7 today, and get $50 off
Samsung has opened Galaxy Reserve ahead of Unpacked next week, where you can supply Samsung with your email address, and you’ll get $50 off when you pre-order on July 9. Samsung is also promising up to $1,150 in additional savings, so you could get a Galaxy Z Fold 7 for a pretty low price actually.
If you’re on the fence about pre-ordering right now, we’d recommend signing up for Galaxy Reserve anyway. As there’s no purchase necessary, in fact, you aren’t even giving Samsung your credit card number. So whether you buy anything or not, you can still get your $50 credit pretty easily.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 release date is set for July 9, with the devices likely shipping around July 17.
