By now, we’ve seen a ton of iPhone 17 Air leaks. For the most part, the iPhone 17 Air doesn’t look too different from its predecessors. The main differences are that it is thinner and sports a single camera on the back. However, thanks to a new report from Majin Bu, the iPhone 17 Air could feature a repositioned selfie cam.
iPhone 17 Air’s new selfie camera location
As you can see in the photo below, Apple could relocate the selfie cam on the iPhone 17 Air. So far, all of Apple’s recent iPhone releases have positioned the selfie cam to the right of the Dynamic Island notch. However, the photo suggests that Apple could shift the camera to the left.

So, why would Apple do this? Is there a reason to relocate the front-facing camera? As you might have heard from all the rumors, the iPhone 17 Air will be Apple’s thinnest iPhone to date. This means that to cram all the hardware into that ultra-thin body, Apple might have to redesign and reposition the components.
This means that one of the main reasons for the selfie cam position change is due to the space in the phone. Right now, the majority of selfie cams on smartphones are either placed in the center of the display or to the right. Presumably, this is due to how most people are right-handed and tend to hold their phones in the right hand.
We’re unsure if Apple’s shift to the left will affect quality or field of view. So, we’ll have to wait and see. Admittedly, it does look a little odd, but if it works, then there’s really nothing to complain about.
The new iPhone in town
Unlike the past few releases, Apple could ditch the iPhone 17 Plus model in favor of the iPhone 17 Air for 2025. This is the first time in a long time that Apple has introduced a new iPhone model in its flagship lineup.
From what we know so far, the iPhone 17 Air isn’t a powerhouse. To get the phone as thin as possible, Apple is reportedly compromising on certain features. For starters, there is only a single camera setup. This contrasts with the dual and triple cameras on the base iPhone and its Pro siblings.
However, the main reason for the thin design is for Apple to test out the configuration of the internal components for its upcoming foldable iPhone, which, last we heard, could debut in 2026.
