Right now, we see AI integrated into software, like photo editing tools, or hardware, like our smartphones. But what would an AI-first device look like? While we wait on OpenAI and Jony Ive to create an AI-first device, the folks at Solos are taking a stab at it with the launch of two new AI-powered smart glasses.
Solos debuts new smart glasses
Meta might be a name some of you think of when it comes to wearables like smart glasses. Granted, the company has an excellent marketing machine, and the Ray-Bans are some of the more popular options right now. But if you’re looking for a Meta alternative, Solos has announced two smart glasses in the form of the AirGo A5 and V2.
Both smart glasses were announced at the Smart Glasses Summit in Hong Kong. Both are designed to look like a regular pair of glasses, meaning that they’re perfect if you want to wear something that will blend in.
Starting with the Solos AirGo A5, this is a pair of smart glasses that is billed as an audio-first device. It features built-in AI that users can summon with the “Hey Solos” command. It also features directional audio that will make your interactions a bit more private.
V2 brings low-power Wi-Fi to start streamings
However, if you are looking for something more advanced, then the AirGo V2 might be the better choice. The smart glasses come with a built-in 16MP stabilized camera. It supports real-time streaming thanks to low-power Wi-Fi integration and features the company’s SolosChat 3.1 multi-modal AI.
Obviously, both glasses have different sets of features. However, they do share some similarities. This includes the use of Solos’ SmartHinge modular system. This allows users to swap things like the frame fronts and batteries. If you’re interested in either model, the Solos AirGo A5 is priced at $249 and is available for pre-orders this August. The Solos AirGo V2, on the other hand, will arrive in Q4 2025 and will sell for $299.
Stiff competition in the market
Solos isn’t a stranger in the smart glasses market. The company has released some models in the past. However, the wearables space is heating up with competition. Meta recently announced another collaboration with Oakley for a sportier pair of smart glasses. According to the rumors, Meta has more models and variants in the works.
Then there are Google and Samsung, both of whom are working on a new headset. Also, if the rumors are correct, Apple is also looking to expand from the Vision Pro headset to its own pair of smart glasses. Solos has its work cut out for it, but it does have an earlier head start than the rest.
