HONOR has confirmed that the Magic V5 will be the world’s new thinnest foldable smartphone. That does not come as a surprise, as HONOR has been pushing the ante in that regard. The OPPO Find N5 does carry the torch at the moment, though.
The HONOR Magic V5 will become the world’s thinnest foldable smartphone
In addition to being the world’s thinnest foldable, this handset will also be “the most powerful AI agent phone to date”, and will be “built for PC-level productivity in your pocket”, the company has said.
This is the third time in a row that HONOR’s foldable will take the crown of the thinnest foldable smartphone in the world. The HONOR Magic V2 did it in 2023, the Magic V3 continued in 2024, and now the Magic V5 will do the same.
HONOR recently announced that this phone will become official on July 2. Do note that we’re talking about a China launch event here, though. The global version of the phone will probably arrive during iFA 2025 in Berlin. In other words, chances are it will become official in September, based on what happened last year.
It will need to trump the OPPO Find N5’s 4.2mm unfolded, and 8.9mm folded thickness
For comparison’s sake, let’s just say that the OPPO Find N5, the current thinnest foldable, measures 4.2mm when unfolded, and 8.9mm when folded. The HONOR Magic V5 will probably look to beat it on both fronts, but the folded thickness is more important, of course.
Both the HONOR Magic V3 and OPPO Find N5 are more than thin enough, but this improvement will be welcomed. The HONOR Magic V3 measures 4.4mm when unfolded and 9.2mm when folded.
The upcoming Vivo X Fold 5 will also be very thin, and the same goes for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7. Samsung finally realized it’s time to stop trailing behind, and will make some changes for the Z Fold series thickness.
We’ll have plenty of compelling foldable smartphones to check out this year. That especially goes for book-style foldables.
