President Trump and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni will hold a bilateral meeting at the White House Thursday afternoon amid a brewing global trade war.
The prime minister’s visit comes as Europe reels from Trump’s latest tariff rollout — including a 10 percent baseline tax and reciprocal tariffs on many countries. The European Union threatened the U.S. with retaliatory import taxes in response.
It also comes a day after Trump met with a Japanese delegation and spoke on the phone with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum amid a 90-day pause on most reciprocal tariffs while the administration opens the door to negotiations. The EU agreed to halt countermeasures for the same amount of time.
The event is scheduled to begin at 1:05 p.m. EDT.
