As part of an initiative between Pacific Gas & Electric Company and real estate developer Westbank, the San Jose City Council has voted to advance the first two of three proposed data centers downtown. The three data centers would pair with 4,000 residential units, providing them with heat and cooling through a district energy system in what is touted as a net-zero community.
“The Silicon Valley Initiative is about the evolution of energy, housing and AI infrastructure – it will create a more inspiring and sustainable community that demonstrates leadership globally,” said Westbank CEO Ian Gillespie. “In PG&E and the City of San Jose, we have found collaborators who share our vision and commitment. We’re looking forward to working together to bring this initiative to life.”
PG&E has begun infrastructure upgrades for delivering approximately 200 megawatts of power to the three data centers. Westbank has launched a global call for data center partners, enlisting Eastdil Secured to lead the process.
