The Road to Redemption
Maserati had a difficult year in 2025, shipping just 7,900 vehicles, a 30.1% decline year over year. The future looked so uncertain that the brand was even rumored to be up for sale, including reports of possible interest from China’s BYD, which Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa later denied.
Now, enthusiasm around the brand could be rekindled following reports that two new concepts could be unveiled based on familiar nameplates: Levante and Quattroporte. These concepts are expected to preview the brand’s future design language, something sister brand Alfa Romeo recently did with the Cuorerosso. However, not much is known for now, though The Supercar Blog has shared when they could debut.

The Shape of Things to Come
The publication, citing unnamed sources, reported that the Levante and Quattroporte concepts will be unveiled on December 10. Maserati CEO Santo Ficili reportedly hinted that the Quattroporte concept could abandon conventional four-door sedan styling in favor of a design that sits somewhere between a shooting brake and a crossover. Such an approach could help it stand out in a crowded crossover market, albeit potentially at the expense of interior space and practicality.
Both the Levante and Quattroporte were discontinued in 2024. The Quattroporte faced declining demand for luxury sedans as buyers increasingly shifted toward crossovers and SUVs. This broader trend has also affected other luxury sedans, including the Lexus LS, which is being discontinued in the U.S. after the 2026 model year. The Italian marque’s first SUV, the Levante, was supposed to capitalize on that demand, but it faced increasing competition from the likes of the Porsche Cayenne and BMW X5.
Maserati initially planned to go all-electric by 2030 but has since shifted toward a multi-powertrain strategy, potentially including hybrids. However, the automaker has largely ruled out plug-in hybrids, citing concerns over the additional weight of their battery systems and the possibility that owners may not charge them regularly.

The Trident Strikes Back
While the reported Maserati concepts could help bring attention back to the brand, their unveiling has yet to be officially confirmed. But if the reports prove true, it would be a welcome development, especially for a brand that has produced iconic models, including the original Ghibli, known for its exceptional design, and the MC12, which featured a Ferrari Enzo-derived V12.
For now, Maserati’s lineup includes one SUV, the Grecale; two grand tourers, the GranTurismo and GranCabrio; and high-performance models such as the MCPura and GT2 Stradale.
