Scrolling through Reddit is about to feel a lot more like browsing TikTok or X. The popular forum platform is splitting its main homepage into two separate tabs so you can choose how you spend your time on the site. It is a noticeable shift that lets you jump between algorithm recommendations and quiet posts from communities you actually joined.
According to Reddit’s official blog, your main feed now features one tab called For You and one tab called Following. The For You tab blends posts from subreddits you already follow with fresh recommendations based on what you recently read. If you spend 10 minutes reading posts in tech forums, the app might throw a few threads from similar subreddits onto your screen without forcing you to join them.
Skipping the noise and keeping your feed clean
Flipping over to the Following tab cuts out all outside recommendations and shows posts strictly from subreddits you joined. You can freely toggle between both tabs at any point on mobile apps or desktop web browsers. Reddit also remembers which tab you looked at last, so you do not have to reset your preference every time you open the app.
Reddit told Android Authority that this dual-feed rollout is hitting mobile apps and desktop web browsers globally over the next few weeks. Getting rid of older features like r/all shows that Reddit wants to push targeted suggestions instead of random viral posts. For casual users, that means fewer generic meme dumps and more threads tied to things you actually care about.
Muting bad recommendations and user reactions
Not everyone loves having an algorithm poke around their homepage. With this in mind, Reddit plans to add buttons that let you mute specific topics or hide recommendations. Long-time users tested the feature early and complained about extra clutter, while newer members liked discovering obscure subreddits faster. Keeping the Following tab clean gives traditional forum fans a way to ignore the new algorithm entirely.
Splitting the main feed gives Reddit a way to chase TikTok-style scrolling without alienating people who hate recommended content. If you just want to read your subscribed subreddits without distraction, you can stick to 1 tab and never touch the other. Watching how people react over the next few weeks will show if this layout change actually keeps scrollers around.
