When the iPhone Duo was released, it came with a day one update that bumped it up to iOS 27.1. Now, it looks like there’s another update for the phone. This comes in the form of iOS 27.2 that brings two new features for the iPhone Duo.
iPhone Duo gets two new features in latest update
As part of the iOS 27.2 update, the iPhone Duo is getting two new features. The first is probably one that most iPhone Duo users are looking forward to, and that is Apple Pencil support. This will allow users to use the Apple Pencil together with the foldable, and the best part is that it works on both the inner and outer display.
From what we’ve seen, it more or less functions like how’d you expect from the Apple Pencil and iPad combo. However, it’s worth noting that probably due to certain limitations, you can only use it with the Apple Pencil with USB-C. This means that the Apple Pencil Pro or other Apple Pencils that use magnets to pair and charge are not compatible. If you already own the Apple Pencil Pro, you’ll need to buy a new one just for this.
The other feature comes in the form of Edge Light. This is designed for video calls where a ring of light appears on the screen surrounding your frame. It’s supposed to add a touch of illumination while you’re on a video call. It was previously a macOS-only feature, but has now made its way onto the iPhone Duo. Note that only the iPhone Duo is getting this feature. Regular iPhones will have to sit this one out.
Some concerns
That being said, we are curious about the Apple Pencil support for the iPhone Duo. Unlike the iPad, whose screen is more rigid, the iPhone Duo has a considerably softer display. We’ve seen tests where even using your fingernails will leave a permanent mark on the screen, so how will the display hold up over time with the Apple Pencil?
Only time will tell. However, the good news is that Apple does sell replacement nanotexture covers. So if you do damage the nanotexture cover, you can replace it for $19 with AppleCare+, or $49 without.
iOS 27.2 is already out so you can go ahead and download it already.
