A Samsung-sponsored Instagram is making the rounds, mocking Apple’s first foldable. Essentially, it sliced an Apple in half and then compared the Galaxy Z Fold 8 to Apple’s new iPhone Duo (which it can’t seem to keep in stock).
To be clear, this isn’t a Samsung ad, but one created by someone else that Samsung is sponsoring.
This ad highlights how much lighter and slimmer the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is. After all, it is ~50 g lighter than the iPhone Duo, which isn’t a small difference. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is also about 1.6mm thinner than the iPhone Duo, which may not sound like much, but you can feel it when holding them side by side.
It’s another playful ad showing why the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is better (according to Samsung). Still, it’s interesting how they went about posting this. Instead of just posting it on their own social media handles, they used a content creator to post it as a sponsored post.
The iPhone Duo went on sale Friday and has been plagued with issues
Last Friday, the iPhone Duo officially went on sale, with hundreds of thousands of users getting their first foldable iPhone. But it doesn’t seem perfect. We have seen reports of hinge issues, as well as displays showing green lines and other defects, just hours after unboxing. Apple is looking into this; it’s likely a small batch, which happens from time to time.
The iPhone Duo is also almost impossible to find in stock anywhere. Apple is still quoting a January 25th ship date if you were to buy one today. But some stores are getting stock; however, they sell out almost instantly. Especially since these stores are getting one or two units at a time. Stock should improve in the next couple of weeks, though.
