Adobe has launched a new feature in Lightroom for mobile, which uses generative AI to open closed eyes in portraits, selfies, and group photos. Adobe has introduced the new functionality alongside Generative Expand, which allows users to extend photos beyond their original frames. Essentially, these new Lightroom Mobile features offer mobile users more ways to enhance their photos without complex manual editing.
Called Open Eyes, the new feature corrects closed eyes in images
The new Open Eyes feature in the Adobe Lightroom Mobile application appears as a Quick Action, whenever it detects closed eyes in an image.Users can hit the new button to generate an automatic correction. It makes it easier to save and share photos, which might require another shot.
The editing giant mentioned that the feature can work without any reference photos. However, the company did mention that results can be better when users have images of the same person in their Lightroom app’s library. The application then uses these photos to match the person’s eye color, shape, and size to offer more accurate corrections.
Adobe has mentioned that the new feature is free to use, making it available for every user without paying for this correction. Earlier, users often used tools like Photoshop to copy eyes from one photo and place them in another. However, the new Adobe Lightroom feature automates all that work, especially in the case of group images.
Generative Expand can naturally extend the scene beyond the original frame
Talking about the new Generative Expand feature, it allows users to extend a photo beyond its original frame. This feature generates additional scenic details, which can create more space around a person. Users can also adjust an image for different social media formats using the same functionality.
With the new Open Eyes and Generative Expand features, Adobe is aiming to make photo editing more flexible on smartphones. However, it’s worth adding that Adobe’s continuous use of generative AI has drawn criticism from several photographers. Many have expressed their disappointment in multiple threads on Reddit and Threads.
