Google is constantly working on making its browser, Chrome, better with handy new features. In the latest update, Google is reportedly testing a new built-in “Copy Link(s)” button for Chrome to let users copy the web addresses of an entire tab group or multiple selected tabs in just one click.
Google Chrome could soon let you copy links from multiple tabs at once
Piunikaweb has spotted an active thread in the Chromium Issue Tracker suggesting that the feature is in the works. When it becomes available, it should solve a common problem for those who use AI chatbots for research. It can be useful for copying links of multiple sources into an AI chatbot to summarize the information.
Moving all the links into a chatbot requires multiple extra steps. A Google engineer who pitched this tool noted in a bug report that, “To get those links into the prompt box, you do this per tab: click the tab, click the address bar, copy, switch to the chat tab, paste. Eight tabs is around forty interactions to move information the browser already has.”
Not widely available just yet
Chrome users currently have to rely on third-party extensions to copy multiple links at once. However, these extensions cannot access tab groups directly, and they usually ask for broad permissions to read the user’s entire browsing history. Many might not be comfortable using these extensions. That said, this isn’t an entirely new idea. Apple’s Safari browser already offers this feature by default.
Chrome’s team reportedly decided to test the feature behind a flag and monitor its usage. When it rolls out, the new “Copy Link(s)” option will reportedly be present inside the tab group menu and in the regular right-click menu when you highlight a few tabs. Clicking it copies all the web addresses to your clipboard. There’s a pops up a tiny confirmation message at the bottom of the screen.
Chrome will smartly skip if you accidentally highlight an internal settings page alongside normal web pages. It will only copy the actual website links. That said, it’s not clear when this will be added to Chrome at this time.
