If it wasn’t obvious already, Apple is deploying a different strategy for the iPhone 18 phones this year. Instead of launching the entire lineup, Apple chose to launch the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max models along with the iPhone Duo. The company is rumored to launch the base models in 2027, and it seems that Apple is anticipating high demand for the iPhone 18 too.
Base iPhone 18 could see high demand
According to tipster Abhishek Yadav, he claims in a post on X that Apple will kick off production of the base iPhone 18 at the end of November. He also claims that Apple is making a lot of units in anticipation of high demand for the base iPhone 18 model.
Can we say we’re surprised? Hardly.
Apple already raised the prices of its entire iPhone lineup by $100. This means that this year’s flagship costs $100 more than last year’s model, making it even more expensive than ever. While the base iPhone 18 will probably see a price hike, it will still be relatively cheaper. This means that those who held off on upgrading to the Pro models might opt for the base model instead.
That being said, there have been some rumors suggesting Apple might actually maintain the price for the base iPhone 18. It might actually be the smart play here. If they hold the price, it makes it look even cheaper in comparison to the Pro models. The company could be at risk of losing its margins, but ultimately, it locks users into its ecosystem where they can recoup those losses on subscriptions, app purchases, and maybe even the purchase of additional Apple products.
Selling better than the Pro models
That being said, the sentiment about the base iPhone 18 seems to be better than that of the Pro series. From what we heard, demand for the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max aren’t so hot. The new and increased prices are obviously a factor. But another factor could be the excitement around the upcoming iPhone Duo.
The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max with its variable aperture, improved vapor chamber, better battery life, and the 2nm A20 Pro chipset are great reasons for upgrading. However, the iPhone Duo represents a brand new iPhone experience. It is possible that many would-be customers are holding off and buying that instead.
