Text scams and fake phone calls are getting clever enough to slip past traditional spam filters every single day. Android is fighting back by using artificial intelligence to catch suspicious conversations, malicious links, and spoofed bank numbers before they cause real damage through Google Messages.
Smart AI monitoring for Google Messages
In a recent cybersecurity update, Google revealed a new opt-in enhanced protection mode rolling out to Google Messages. The upgrade combines on-device Gemini Nano models with encrypted cloud processing to analyze tricky text conversations with unknown senders in real time.
The system uses cloud Gemini models on Private AI Compute to analyze conversation context and identify slow-burn scams rather than just relying on basic keyword filters. To protect user privacy, Google encrypts this analysis in a dedicated space that remains inaccessible to anyone else.
On-device Gemini Nano also evaluates unfamiliar website links on supported hardware. Because scammers frequently register brand-new web domains that security databases have not cataloged yet, the AI checks real-time web signals to flag untrustworthy URLs and displays redesigned warnings before you tap.
Broader safeguards across phone calls and screen sharing
Beyond text messaging, Android is tackling sneaky social engineering tactics across phone calls and mobile apps. A new call-forwarding shield stops malicious applications from quietly enabling background call redirects, while proactively warning users if a scammer tricks them into manually typing an MMI forwarding code on the dial pad.

Screen sharing is also getting a major privacy boost. Devices running Android 15 or newer will now automatically blank out sensitive login fields, passwords, and credit card details inside Chrome and WebView during live sharing sessions with coworkers or family members.
Google is also expanding its notification-based scam alerts beyond Pixel phones. It’s reaching devices from Motorola, Xiaomi, OnePlus, OPPO, and vivo. Plus, Android is partnering directly with global financial institutions to verify official bank calls in real time, automatically hanging up on spoofed caller IDs before users can be tricked. Independent evaluations by Leviathan Security Group highlight that these built-in tools give Android users robust protection against modern fraud tactics.
