Apple announces HomeView, a new smart home hub
Apple says the new HomeView is designed to serve as a shared screen for households. The product can also match an individual’s personalized interface. It supports FaceTime video and audio calls over Wi-Fi. Apple says Siri can use personal context from a paired iPhone to help users find information and complete everyday tasks.
Greg Joswiak, Apple‘s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, said the device can recognize faces to switch between a household display and individual experiences. The HomeView runs Apple’s A18 chip and features a 12-megapixel Center Stage camera. The 7-inch Liquid Retina display features a resolution of 1,088 x 1,088 pixels. The panel has a pixel density of 220PPI and has a maximum brightness of 500 nits.

Two HomeView models offer different setup options
In terms of audio, the HomeView supports Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos for compatible content. Moreover, the gadget also brings AirPlay support for multiroom playback. It has four microphones with Sound Recognition. It can identify smoke and carbon monoxide alarm sounds and send notifications. The firm has also included temperature, humidity and ambient-light sensors.
Apple will sell HomeView in two different versions: a standard model with a speaker base and a wall-mounted model. The standard version weighs 2.1 pounds and comes with a USB-C cable and a 30W power adapter. On the other hand, the wall-mounted version weighs 0.63 pounds. However, its compatible mount, USB-C cable and power adapter rated at a minimum of 20W must be purchased separately. Both models support Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 6.0 and Thread networking.
