At its new ‘Welcome-Home’ event in New York, Apple took the stage to unveil a range of smart home devices. The list includes the much-awaited HomeView smart home hub and Home Collection, a new lineup of smart home accessories. Then we also have the new Apple HomePod mini 2. The biggest upgrade in the latest version is that it’s equipped with Siri AI and also offers improved audio experiences.
Apple HomePod mini 2 features the S10 chip and supports Siri AI
The new HomePod mini 2 comes with an S10 chip that supports advanced computational audio. As per Apple, it optimizes dynamic range, loudness, and acoustic performance in real time. There’s a new Sound Glow feature, which makes the HomePod mini 2’s top glow and animate in sync with music, reacting to bass and treble. It apparently uses colors from the song’s album artwork.
You can pair four HomePod minis together to create a four-speaker surround sound with the latest Apple TV 4K. The speakers and Apple TV are capable of recognizing their position in the room and adjusting audio levels to suit the space. The new HomePod mini 2 can also work as a speaker for the Mac.
Siri AI will be available in a future software update
As for Siri AI, it’ll be available in a future software update. It will only work when you pair it with an Apple Intelligence-supported iPhone or iPad. The AI assistant can recognize up to six users by their voice and connect to their devices to provide personalized information, such as Messages.
Much like the previous version of the HomePod mini, the new model will serve as a home hub and can control smart home devices. It supports Sound Recognition and can listen for smoke or carbon monoxide alarms and send alerts if it detects one. The HomePod mini 2 costs $149, and it comes in green, blue, pink, white, and midnight colors. You can pre-order now, and it will be available from October 30.
