The Xbox Series X is dealing with another price increase that’s making it ever more difficult for fans to acquire one for their setup, though this time it’s happening in markets outside the US, specifically in regions that wouldn’t be considered “traditional English markets.”
It’s also not just an issue with prices going up, as many regions outside the US, UK, Canada, and other larger markets where English is the primarily spoken language, have simply been out of stock of the Xbox Series X for months. These discussions about the price increase on the Xbox Series X are happening just a week after GameStop began listing used PS5 Pro consoles for $1,399.99, which is $500 over what Sony is charging officially for the hardware brand-new. With the Xbox Series X, the increased pricing is a result of similar situations. Retailers charging more money.
The Xbox Series X is seeing a price increase that’s equal to $1,600 in some countries
While the Xbox Series X is still $799.99 in the US, £669.99 in the UK, and CAD $949.99 in Canada, markets outside of these countries have seen prices balloon to astronomical amounts. A detail that came to light after Windows Central’s Jez Corden took a poll on X asking people in countries like Japan, Brazil, Korea, Mexico, and others how they felt about the state of Xbox in their regions.
One commenter from Brazil says that official Xbox console distribution in the country hasn’t happened in two years. Another commenter says that it’s been a year for South Korea. Over on the ResetEra forums, several users are talking about the price, noting that only certain retailers have any stock, echoing the same sentiments that official distribution is low or non-existent. One user from Sweden says that currently there is only one retailer selling the console, and they’re charging the equivalent of $1,600 for it. One user from Poland says that retailers are charging the equivalent of $1,300.
As other users have pointed out, this is a mix of hardware scarcity and predatory markups from retailers. Nevertheless, the situation doesn’t have Xbox fans in those regions feeling good about the brand.
