The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is on sale too, dropping to $1,699 from $2,099. That’s $400 off Samsung’s most powerful foldable.
So why the urgency? The RAM crisis. AI companies are buying up memory as fast as it can be made, and prices have more than doubled this year. Memory now makes up around 20% of what it costs to build a phone, and Samsung’s mobile division is bracing for its first-ever annual loss because of it. Samsung has already raised prices on the Galaxy S26 lineup and its tablets, even on devices that were already on shelves. It’s hard to imagine the Fold 8 series dodging the next round.
As for the phones themselves, they’re both excellent. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is Samsung’s new wide foldable, with a 4:3 inner display that’s far better for watching videos than previous Folds. It’s powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy and packs a 200MP main camera, a 5,000mAh battery, and 45W charging. Both ship with Android 17 and One UI 9, plus seven years of updates, so either one will last you a long time.
