After rolling out to iPhones earlier this week, Samsung’s SmartThings app for Android is now receiving the much-awaited major UI redesign. Galaxy and other Android phones are now receiving the update. This brings a more modern look to the app compared to the previous version. Here’s everything new.
Samsung’s SmartThings app redesign is rolling out on Android
Version 1.8.51.30 of Samsung’s SmartThings app brings this major redesign to Android for select Galaxy smartphones and tablets. It keeps things light, with lighter colors and a compact floating bar at the bottom. Buttons for the location QR code, location selection, map view, adding devices, and more options are now at the top. Right below them is a large card with suggestions and important updates.
The Home tab surfaces all your favorite devices and routines. Their cards are now compact by default, but you can increase their size just by long-pressing the card. Tapping the icon on the card turns the device on or off. Meanwhile, clicking the rest of the card opens more details.
Lighter and more modern
The Devices tab shows all the compatible smart home devices in your home. They are organized by room. You can change the home’s layout, and can view it in either 2D or 3D. You can also add furniture like lights, sofas, wardrobes, and even smart home devices to each room.
If the previous design felt a bit outdated by today’s standards, the new design should look much fresher. It is lighter and has a more modern interface. That said, it doesn’t have the Liquid Glass design like on the iOS version of the app. That can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on your personal preference. You can update or install the app from the Google Play Store or the Galaxy Store.
