Compromised Rear Subframes
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued a recall for certain Land Rover Range Rover Sport units that may develop cracks in the rear subframe. The recall affects model years 2024 to 2026.
More specifically, vehicles in the United States built at the Solihull Vehicle Assembly Plant from October 3, 2023, to May 22, 2026, are being called back to dealers to fix the issue. The recall, among others, also details that there are 873 of these Land Rover vehicles in the United States and its territories that have this issue.
To date, there have been no reported accidents, injuries, or fires in the United States, nor have there been any claims or field reports related to the issue.

Supplier and Production Issue
The affected-vehicle population comes from Jaguar Land Rover’s (JLR’s) supplier and production records, indicating something went wrong before the cars shipped to the United States. The suppliers involved in producing the subframes are Linamar Casting, a tier 2 supplier, and Gestamp Assembly, a tier 1 supplier. According to the report, JLR identified a forging defect, which prompted an investigation.
The NHTSA report states: “On 04 June 2026, a forging defect was detected in a rear subframe at the supplier, and the part was quarantined. Further analysis was carried out into the process, which confirmed that, due to the final machining process expecting to remove material from the affected area, cracks on the affected node were not being routinely removed during the manual quality inspection processes. A thorough review of process and build records was commissioned.”
JLR analyzed its suppliers’ and its own image histories, where it was able to detect potential cracks on the rear subframe of some vehicles. However, the report says more units may also be affected because of the lack of imaging history.
Cracked
Cracks in a vehicle’s subframe compromise its structural integrity and can expose occupants to a higher risk of injury in a crash. If owners continue driving with the issue, the cracks could grow over time and cause an accident.
For vehicles tagged with the known issue, JLR is prepared to inspect, replace, and repair the affected units. JLR advises all 2024 to 2026 Land Rover Range Rover Sport owners to get their rear subframes inspected and replaced if needed. Because there is no photographic evidence, JLR can’t call in certain cars to be absolutely sure this recall is handled properly.
