Google Messages users are running into a problem with the built-in camera function. The system is reportedly not handling the camera flash correctly. A Verizon-branded Galaxy S24 Ultra owner reported that the flash fires before the photo is taken. It therefore produces an unusually dark image. If you think the issue is related to a certain version of the app, you may be wrong, as users on different beta and stable versions have reported similar problems.
One Pixel user said that the Google Messages app on his phone simply refuses to turn on the flash, even when done manually. The following report also confirms that the bug is affecting several phones. As per the reports, the problem can appear at random. There’s no basic troubleshooting available.

Some users may suspect that the problem might be linked to the phone’s flash and not Google Messages. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case here. Affected users have said that the flash works normally when operated using the system toggle and from the stock camera.
