Some of you will remember that, back in August, a mysterious Pixel fitness tracker surfaced as part of Pixel 11 ads. Considering that it surfaced in several ads, if it was a mistake by Google, it was a major one.
Either way, we assumed that Google did it on purpose. Why? Because it appeared in more than one place, and it was pretty obvious. So, logic dictates that the product has to launch at some point, right?
Google’s fitness tracker with a display seemingly popped up at the FCC
We assumed that it’s coming by the end of the year, and that could happen. A mysterious Google device just surfaced over at the FCC, and it could be a Wear OS-powered fitness tracker.
It is marked as a ‘Wireless Device’, and it comes from Goertek, a company known for manufacturing various generations of Pixel Buds. The ‘G8BL6’ model name is also mentioned, and it matches Google’s usual pattern for hardware.
Furthermore, the e-label points to the existence of a screen on the device, with the access method being Settings -> System -> Regulatory Information. That’s also how you access the e-label on the Pixel Watch.
It will be powered by Wear OS
Considering that fact, we believe that this device is powered by Wear OS, as the menu seems to be the same. Also, the Android Debug Bridge (ADB) was leveraged during the testing process, which further confirms Wear OS.
The device is equipped with Bluetooth LE and Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), or GPS. If we bring all this information together, this could certainly be a fitness tracker.
Google already has a fitness tracker without a screen, the Fitbit Air, and this new one could be its counterpart with a display. You can see how it’s expected to look below, based on Pixel 11 ads.
