Playing high-end video games without buying a dedicated console is taking another step forward. Microsoft officially confirmed a new partnership with TV giant TCL to bring the dedicated Xbox app to select TCL Smart TVs over the coming months.
First teased back at CES 2026, the official announcement confirms that millions of TV owners across more than 25 countries will soon be able to stream games directly through their screens. While the official release does not explicitly name Google TV, TCL primarily uses the platform for its mainstream display lineup. This marks the first time Microsoft’s cloud gaming app officially arrives on Google TV hardware.
How streaming works and cross-platform syncing
Getting started with cloud gaming on supported screens requires three basic elements: the Xbox app installed on a compatible TCL Smart TV, a supported wireless controller, and access to cloud playtime through an Xbox Game Pass subscription. Once connected, users can stream a deep library of titles directly over an internet connection, ranging from major blockbuster franchises to indie releases.
Crucially, Microsoft is keeping its full ecosystem connected across platforms. Your game saves, unlocked achievements, custom profiles, and friends list travel with you automatically. This allows you to pause a session on a PC or Xbox console and pick right back up on your living room television.
Hardware requirements, regional rollouts, and launch details
The Xbox app integration will begin rolling out in select regions in the coming months. Microsoft has not given a specific launch date yet, though. The announcement arrives alongside other recent updates to the ecosystem, such as new digital entitlement systems that let players unlock cloud access by using physical game discs in compatible consoles.
Pricing, regional availability, and launch deals
You will be able to access the app from supported TCL Smart TV models at no additional charge for the software itself. However, players will need an active Xbox Game Pass subscription that includes cloud playtime, or purchase playtime separately based on recent regional plan updates. Detailed lists of compatible TCL TV model numbers and regional release dates will be available later.
