Should you get a handheld vacuum or a robot vacuum? Both have its advantages and disadvantages, but what if you could have both? That’s a decision the xLean TR1 has made for you by showing up at IFA 2026.
xLean TR1 blows past its Kickstarter goals
The xLean TR1 is actually not new. We got a glimpse at the device back at IFA 2025. Just in case you’re hearing about this for the first time, what makes the TR1 so different is the company’s claim that this is the “world’s first dual-form floor washing robot.” What does that mean? Simple.
It combines a robot vacuum and a handheld vacuum into a single device. This means that if you want to go hands-on with it, simply attach the handle and you can use it like a regular vacuum. But if you’re feeling lazy or want to automate the cleaning process, the TR1 acts like a robot vacuum as well.
It’s not just a vacuum though, it combines both a vacuum and mop into one. So, if you have any spills or stains that a vacuum might not otherwise be able to clean, that’s where the mopping function comes in. It’s admittedly one of the more oddly-shaped robot vacuums we’ve seen.
Most robot vacuums tend to be circular, but the TR1 is more boxy in its design. It actually reminds us more of those robot pool cleaners. But hey, as long as it gets the job done, who are we to complain, right?
What else can it do?
Now aside from being able to transform from a robot vacuum to a handheld, it boasts 17,000Pa suction. There are dual-rolling drums that run up to 800 self-cleans per minute. There’s even a laser dirt sensor that works with the company’s EvoMind Algorithm to help find spots it might have missed. This means that it’s not just some dumb robot following a path, it can actively seek out spots that are dirty.
As with most robot vacuums these days, the TR1 is equipped with 360-degree LiDAR, a RGB-D camera with 44,640 3D sensing points. The base station not only acts as a charging dock, but it helps wash the rollers and dries them. So the next time it is deployed, you won’t be cleaning your floors with dirty rollers.
The TR1 was launched on Kickstarter earlier this year and raised around $2 million. If you missed out, don’t worry. It is available for pre-order from its website for $999.
