Google is bringing a useful new battery feature to its recent Pixel smartphone lineup. The search titan has started rolling out a new tool to the Pixel 10 and newer models, which offers AI-generated battery usage summaries. This update aims to help Pixel users easily understand what is draining their smartphone’s battery without having to read through complex charts or dig deep into their system settings.
The summary tool explains battery power drain in simple words
On a support page, Google explains that the new battery usage summaries use AI to translate your Pixel’s power data into natural language. You can find this new overview right at the top of the standard battery usage page in your device’s settings. Instead of displaying only percentage numbers, the Pixel now offers a brief written recap of your recent battery power habits.
The new summary might point out that you used more power than usual for the current time of day. It will then tell you which specific applications drained the most battery life from your handset. The tool runs in the background on the device using Gemini Nano. Your personal usage data never leaves your handset for processing.
The feature requires an update and only works on newer Pixel models
Google has mentioned that to use this new battery tool, your Pixel needs the latest version of the AI Core application. Once you install the update, the battery summaries will turn on automatically in the background on your phone. Google notes that the system constantly monitors your app background activity and compares your current battery consumption against your recent daily averages.
However, the new battery usage summaries feature isn’t available for everyone. Google has restricted the rollout of the tool to the Pixel 10 and Pixel 11 smartphones, leaving out older handsets.
