Xiaomi is reportedly developing a new hardware-level feature that will automatically hide sensitive information from a portion of the screen. Samsung first introduced the privacy display feature on its Galaxy S26 Ultra. Now, it looks like the Chinese tech giant is ready to bring a similar privacy feature to its smartphones that will keep private information away from prying eyes.
New leak reveals privacy display page UI of upcoming Xiaomi flagship
The leaked screenshots, reportedly taken from a global ROM, show Xiaomi’s Smart privacy display UI. Instead of offering a simple on-or-off switch, the feature appears to give users more control over how privacy mode works. Users can create groups and add different apps to each one. The option allows separate privacy display settings depending on what they are doing on the phone.
Another interesting part of the leak is that it reveals a new automatic privacy protection option. Users can configure the settings to let the system automatically active privacy screen on select pages. The list includes sensitive screens, such as password entry, payment pages, money transfers, and messaging. If true, this is going to be one of the best additions. Instead of manually turning on privacy mode each time, users can simply configure the phone to do that automatically.
Xiaomi’s version of privacy display could be more advanced
Samsung introduced its built-in hardware-controlled privacy display with the Galaxy S26 Ultra earlier this year. Xiaomi now seems to be following suit. Xiaomi adopting the feature could also mean that privacy-focused displays could soon become more common on high-end smartphones. The newest leak gives us a clear idea of how Xiaomi intends to differentiate its privacy screen.
Earlier reports claimed the Xiaomi 18 Pro will bring a hardware-controlled privacy display. The following leak adds weight to that claim. Xiaomi is expected to introduce the Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max in September, with both phones reportedly using Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset. The two models are also expected to keep their rear displays, but may get a larger screen size.
