Plaud just announced its first AI wearable, and it’s very different from other AI wearables on the market. These are new earbuds that you’ll want to use for every meeting and call you’re in.
Just pop them in when you’re about to head to a meeting, and they’ll record and transcribe everything they hear. And let me tell you, Plaud’s transcription is very impressive. The company can do this by integrating LTE connectivity into Plaud One’s charging case. They have also negotiated terms with carriers in more than 80 countries and regions to allow the earbuds to connect to the internet without a cellular contract. So they will just work.
Plaud One can automatically upload recordings to Plaud’s servers, where the company’s software can then transcribe and summarize them for you. Then Plaud’s digital assistant can generate reports for you, prepare follow-ups, and take action across a selection of supported third-party apps. This includes apps like Gmail, Google Calendar, Notion, and Slack.
These can still be used as regular earbuds
While the main purpose of the Plaud One is for recording meetings and calls, you can still use it as regular earbuds for listening to music or podcasts. You’ll just need to pair them with another device, like your phone; thankfully, it has Bluetooth 5.4 built in.
Unfortunately, Bluetooth codec support is rather hit-or-miss. You get SBC and LDAC, but that’s about it. So there’s no support for Qualcomm’s aptX codecs, unfortunately. But keep in mind that these aren’t made for listening to music and podcasts; they’re made for listening and transcribing.
Plaud is releasing a $250 “Explorer Edition” of the Plaud One, which is aimed at early adopters, before making the device more broadly available. Pre-orders are open starting today in select markets, with shipments expected to come before the end of the year.
