Following the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 durability tests, Zack from the JerryRigEverything YouTube channel managed to get his hands on the ‘Ultra’ model. So, get ready for some Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra durability tests. A teardown is also included here, by the way.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra durability tests are here, and the results are interesting
As per usual, a YouTube video has been released. It’s embedded below this paragraph, in case you’d like to watch it in full. The usual set of tests has been performed, including a scratch test, a band test, and so on.
The first test is the scratch test. The cover display of this phone is protected by the Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3. The level 6 pick made the first, barely visible scratches, while the level 7 pick managed to do more serious damage.
The inner, foldable display is a completely different ballgame, though. That display is much more sensitive. A level 2 pick did some damage, and even your fingernail can scratch that display. That’s the case with every folding phone, so be careful.
Zack also proved that the frame is made out of aluminum, and that the physical buttons are removable. He also removed the glass camera lenses, just for the fun of it, while the camera plateau itself is made out of plastic.
The main display lasted for 9 seconds under direct flame before going black and not recovering. The cover display managed to last for 10 seconds before getting damaged. This is not that important, but it’s a fun test nonetheless.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is not dirt resistant, keep that in mind
Zack then proceeded to put a lot of dirt on the phone’s main display and its hinge. Considering that the phone is not dust-resistant, you can’t expect too much here. Besides, he put a ton of dirt here, way too much. In any case, the phone continued working, but the dirt obviously entered the hinge, as you can hear during the folding/unfolding process.
The phone’s main display did die during the second bend from the back. The phone did not snap in half, though. In the second part of the video, Zack even disassembled the phone to show you what sits on the inside.
