Former Rep. Abigail Spanbergerās (D-Va.) gubernatorial campaign said on Monday it raised $6.7 million in the first quarter of the year.Ā
The haul included over 50,000 donations of $100 dollars or less in the first three months of the year, according to the Spanberger campaign.
The campaign said that the haul is the largest amount ever raised by a Virginia statewide candidate in the first quarter of an election year.Ā
Last week Spanberger was confirmed as the Democratic gubernatorial nominee, teeing up a matchup against Virginia Lt. Gov. Winsome Sears (R). On Sunday, Sears was confirmed as the GOPās gubernatorial nominee.Ā
A Roanoke College poll released last month showed 39 percent of registered voters said they backed Spanberger for governor, while 24 percent said they supported Earle-Sears; 4 percent said they would vote for someone else.Ā
A previous poll from Mason-Dixon Polling and Strategy released in January showed Earle-Sears trailing Spanberger by a more narrow margin, 47 percent to 44 percent, with 9 percent in that poll saying they were undecided.Ā
The nonpartisan Cook Political Report rates the race as a toss-up.Ā
