Google has started pushing out Android 17 QPR1 Beta 9 to Pixel users. This follows a big Android 17 QPR2 Beta 3 update which started rolling out last Friday.
Android 17 QPR1 Beta 9 is now available for Pixel devices
Android 17 QPR1 Beta 9 is now here, though it’s still on the July 2026 Android security patch. Google has listed 5 fixes that this update brings. So, let’s get into it.
The first fix is for an issue with swiping the bottom gesture bar to switch between apps. It failed to work after invoking Circle to Search. Google has resolved this by updating system gesture handling to properly reset navigation focus.
The second issue was related to an unexpected loud noise during media playback and notification interactions. That should no longer happen following this update.
On the previous version, some devices also entered a continuous reboot loop every 20 to 30 seconds. That has been fixed. Taskbar icons will no longer mysteriously disappear when launching apps or entering bubble mode on foldable devices, as that was also an issue before.
5 issues were fixed, including a battery drain
The last issue pertains to the battery drain. Intermittent battery drain was a problem on the last update, but Google resolved that as well. We don’t know the details, but it has been fixed here.
If you end up installing this update, you can always help Google and report issues via the Android Beta Feedback app on Pixel devices. You can do the same via the Android Beta community on Reddit.
Android 17 QPR1 Beta 9 is available for the Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel Tablet, Pixel Fold, Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 8a, Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Pixel 9a, Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, Pixel 10 Pro Fold, Pixel 10a, and the Android Emulator.
You can either get a system image and install it that way, or do what most people do and join via the Android Beta Program. Be warned, though, this is not a stable update, so there’s a good chance you’ll encounter issues.
