Foxconn is apparently hiring new workers and offering $1,230 bonuses to meet demand for the new iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, set to be announced next month.
These details come from the Economic Daily News, which also says Apple is likely to hold its keynote on September 9, just after IFA concludes in Berlin. That’s typically around when Apple has held its launch in previous years, usually on the Tuesday or Wednesday of the second week of September.
To help boost headcount, Foxconn is offering short-term signing bonuses totalling up to RMB 8,800 which is about $1,230 USD. That’s a much higher incentive than what most other companies in that region offer. Those who started from August 14 will get an additional RMB 500 (about $74 USD), followed by the remaining RMB 8,300.
Previously, Foxconn had offered as much as RMB 9,00 or $1,334 USD. So this is slightly lower this year. This report doesn’t really explain why Foxconn is offering a lower bonus this year, despite the iPhone Ultra being added to the lineup. Foxconn is apparently recruiting for two business groups, which include component testing, assembly, and quality inspection.
While Apple is still likely to ship huge numbers of iPhones this Fall, they could be lower than usual.
Due to the ongoing RAM crisis, which is inevitably going to push up the cost of the iPhone this Fall – some reports are saying as much as $300 more – demand is still likely going to be quite high. RAM is expected to account for about 42% of BoM (Bill of Materials) in 2027; previously, it was closer to 10% or lower.
However, keep in mind that the base model isn’t being announced this Fall. So Apple will continue to sell the iPhone 17 and iPhone Air alongside the newer iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and new iPhone Ultra, which will really shake up Apple’s sales numbers.
