Porsche has issued a fitting reply to the driving purists who thought the analog way of doing things was on its way out. After taking in the considerable input from enthusiasts across North America, Porsche is making a point of reintroducing the six-speed manual to the 911 Carrera S.
The 2027 Porsche 911 Carrera S with MT Package is the answer to those who found the latest 992.2-generation’s eight-speed PDK dual-clutch wanting in terms of engagement. Where the standard model is about straight-line speed, this new offering puts a premium on the art of the shift and keeping weight down.
One could call it a recipe for the true fan. The MT Package is more than a simple change of cogs; it is a build that takes the spirit of the light 911 Carrera T and marries it to the Carrera S powertrain. Under the hood is the well-known 3.0-liter twin-turbo flat-six putting out 473 hp. And yet, the curb weight on the new Coupe is held to a disciplined 3,327 lbs., only 11 over the Carrera T.
Porsche has included the sort of hardware one would normally have to put on an options list. The package features rear-axle steering and a PASM Sport suspension that lowers the ride height by 10 mm. There is also the Sport Chrono Package for dynamic modes and some unique factory touches like a walnut shifter and a red “S” badge on the rear.
Then there are the center-lock wheels, a first for the Carrera S that are track-inspired and will save you more than 17 lbs. of unsprung weight. Braking is handled by 408 mm front and 380 mm rear cast-iron discs, though for the ultimate in weight savings, Porsche is making its Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) an option here, something not available on the Carrera T.
There is room to make the 2027 model your own. In addition to 17 paint colors and the Paint to Sample service, two design packages are on offer. The Exterior Package gives the car a certain look with HD-Matrix headlights, Ceramica wheels and puddle lights that cast the six-speed pattern on the ground. For the cabin, the Interior Package has a more old-world feel with Plaid Sport-Tex in the seats, Chalk stitching and brushed black aluminum.
This release cements the region as a stronghold for the manual gearbox. With seven variants now in the lineup to row your own gears, ranging from the entry-level Carrera T to the GT3 and its derivatives, the new Carrera S sits in the sweet spot.
Pricing for the 911 S Coupe with MT Package starts at $169,450, while the Cabriolet version is priced at $183,350.
